Would You Rather Be Photographed at Home?

Would you rather have photography at home?

Is the thought of a photo shoot at a studio more stress than you can deal with?  Are you too busy to herd up the whole family and ask them to be on their best behaviour for a couple of hours, in a strange place with a strange lady with a big camera?  If you have small children you may be concerned that they might be a little confused about a photoshoot, especially if they are also very energetic and might not behave in a strange and confined space.  Or is it simply that you want a more personal feel to your photographs?

photo shoots at home

Is it the Personal Feel You’re After?

Do you want your photographs to be more personal and meaningful to you because they we’re taken in your home?  You can chat to me any time about a family photo shoot at your home, or you may prefer to be photographed at a favourite location that means something to you and your family.  I am sometimes asked along to family celebrations at home because this is often the only time extended families get together and so it’s the perfect opportunity to have some professional photographs taken.  If you are planning a big family get together for a special birthday, anniversary, christening or just because you feel it’s time to have the whole family come together I strongly advise that you capture this special time in photographs.

family photography at home

This family on these photographs live on a lovely little farm in Leicestershire and their photo shoot was great fun. very personal to them and they are delighted with their photographs.  The children were very energetic and ran around at 100 miles an hour around their fields and home and took great delight in showing me their new baby cows, the areas where they like to play and the tractors, trees and hay bales they love to climb.  Of course I was equally delighted to have an abundance of lovely areas to photograph the family.  We started with a few family photographs in the kitchen whilst they were still interested in the whole photo shoot scenario.  As soon as they started to lose interest (within about 15 minutes) we continued with photographs outside in the fresh air and they got to burn off some energy, doing what they do most days.

family photography at home

I treated this photo shoot like a little adventure, to a certain extent allowing the children to take control, show me around their home and working around their ’50 miles an hour’ energy.  There was absolutely no point in asking these children to remain still.  I would  have been fighting a losing battle from the minute I arrived.

Note:  Dad was super busy on his farm and was with us for around 20 minutes for a few family portraits in and around the farm, then he was off doing his ‘dad stuff’.  I think he was happy not to hang around for the whole time we were on our adventure.

Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day 2018 is particularly early this year.  I know this because it’s usually the week after my birthday on 23rd March.  So I always feel extra spoilt at this time of year, with a birthday followed by Mother’s Day.  Have you planned your gift for your lovely mum yet this Mother’s Day yet?  What do you think she would love for her Mother’s Day gift this year?  Flowers and chocolate are quite often the ‘go to’ gift of choice or maybe her favourite perfume or a meal out.

mother's day gift voucher

But have you ever thought about perhaps giving your special mum the gift of ‘memories’.  How often do you all get together as a family?   If you’re anything like my family it’s very rare these days that my husband, myself and my two grown up girls with very busy social lives actually get together.  It’s rare that we even manage to sit down and eat together at the same time!  And I know this is the case for many families in the 21st century.

So you can buy mum that bottle of perfume that will soon be empty, or those beautiful flowers which will last a week or two if you’re lucky, or that expensive chocolate (which secretly you know you will eat too).  But you could also arrange something that will get you all together as a family in the form of  a ‘win win’ gift.   Mum gets you all in a room at the same time and as a result of this family get together she will have some beautiful family portraits that she will adore absolutely FOREVER!  I have had many families at my studio for celebration photo shoots such as special birthdays, anniversaries etc and I love to see families coming together at my studio.  Always gives me a fuzzy, warm feeling.

Mum’s are so precious, so loved and always there for you during the good times or the bad and often we take our mums for granted on a regular basis.  But it doesn’t matter how many friends you have, when times are really tough we are more likely to turn to mum than anybody else.  Mother’s Day is the one day in a year that you can really show mum how much you appreciate her and treat her to something nice.   You are most welcome to call me on 01455 233224 to buy a gift voucher for your lovely mum or you can purchase one via this LINK

So, go on…  get some extra big ‘brownie points’ this Mother’s Day and delight your wonderful mum.  xx

Lucy & Mark’s Potters Marston Wedding

Leicestershire Wedding Photography | Lucy & Mark’s Potters Marston Wedding

It’s not often that I share weddings on the blog, simply because I’m so busy shooting them and don’t get time to write about them.  Lucy & Mark’s wedding was so beautiful and unique that I just had to share!

Potters Marston is a tiny village in Leicestershire, with an even tinier chapel at just 38 feet long and I now hold the unique honour of being the wedding photographer of the first ever wedding at one of the smallest churches in the county! The chapel actually dates back to the 15th century but it seems that Lucy & Mark are the first couple to actually get married there.

The chapel is in the grounds of Lucy’s parents’ home and the reception was held in a gorgeous marquee provided by Covertec Structures. Flowers By Stephanie did an amazing job (as I’m sure you’ll see from the photos) of decorating everywhere with flowers and creating the beautiful bouquets for Lucy and her bridesmaids,  her floral decor was just perfect for a wedding in such a rural location.

As you can see the weather was just perfect, the wedding was beautiful and the day was relaxed and full of fun and love. These are my absolute favourite sorts of weddings, perfectly suited to my style of wedding photography which is informal and relaxed, capturing the story of the day as it unfolds. I also love to create beautiful portraits of the bride and groom on their big day and what could be better than having a field of golden wheat and perfect light, ideal for Lucy and Mark to take a little quiet time together after the wedding breakfast.

I hope you enjoy the photos and if you are planning your own Leicestershire wedding and would like to have a chat about wedding photography why not give me a call on 01455 233224.

Newborn Baby Photography in Leicestershire | Home Sessions Available

Baby photography in Hinckley and LeicesterRecently I was asked why I offer home visits across Leicestershire for newborn photography sessions when I have my beautiful studio in Hinckley.

Many new mums are happy to escape the house for a couple of hours and relax in my studio whilst I photograph their new baby, but for others the thought of having to pack up everything needed to leave the house with a new baby as well as making themselves presentable can be overwhelming.

Baby photography in Hinckley and Leicester

Baby photography in Hinckley and Leicester

If you are a new mum and don’t feel ready to go out for a few hours I really don’t want you to miss the opportunity to have some beautiful images of your precious new baby whilst they are still tiny so I’ll happily pack up my equipment and come to you.

If you happen to be having one of those days where you just don’t seem to be able to get anything done there’s really no need to worry. I’ll get on with doing my thing and you can sit and relax, have a cup of tea and watch me work. You can even stay in your pyjamas if you like, I’ve had two babies myself and remember those days well so I won’t be the slightest bit surprised!

Baby photography in Hinckley and Leicester

There’s a lovely brochure available full of information regarding my newborn baby photo sessions, including what to expect, how to prepare and a full price list. Family Photography Leicester

If you are looking to book a photography session for you and your family, and you would prefer an outdoor photo shoot so that your children can run about and have fun, I could just be the lady for you!  I love photographing families on location and I understand that a studio photography shoot can be a bit daunting, especially if you have young children.  A formal studio with lighting can be a bit scary for small children, and even if they are not troubled being in unfamiliar surroundings, chances are they will become distracted and their attention span will be very limited.  However, a photography session at their favourite park, your garden or a special and familiar place is guaranteed to be more fun, definitely more relaxed and ultimately just a little bit different.

If you wish to book a location photography family photo shoot, please call to discuss or book.  A location shoot is £95 (within a 20 mile radius of Hinckley, Leicestershire) and this fee includes a complimentary 10×8 print.   You will return for a viewing of your final images from the photo shoot around 1-2 weeks after the session, where you can select your favourite photographs from the day.  I offer various collections including prints, wall art and digital files.

Please Print Your Memories

A big question to all of you out there?  Do you print your memories?  If the answer is no?  Why not?    Are your portrait or wedding photographs stored on a disc or USB device, hiding away in a drawer or cupboard somewhere?  If so, this is such a shame.  These days, unfortunately, our photographs are stored on electronic devices and we need actual electricity to view our treasured memories – we live in a digital age – fact.  Photographs are stored on mobile phones, computers, tablets  and discs / USB devices.  This makes me a little sad – and I am on a mission to encourage my clients and non clients to print out their photographs.  I make a massive effort to go through my own personal photographs, even if it’s at the end of the year.  Many of these are just family snaps taken on special occasions but I have to get them printed.  I take just a couple of hours and go through my folders of personal photographs sitting on my computer and create a simple coffee table book, or print out 6×4 prints to put in a box and store away safely.  These are for my children.  I have heard lots of horror stories about precious photographs being lost forever because they were not backed up or printed.  So very sad to lose such precious memories, never to be retrieved again.

Your photographs are not just for you,  they are for your children, and your children’s children.  Precious memories of your family get togethers, your children growing up, your family holidays, weddings, christenings, birthdays… the list goes on.  Where are all of these wonderful photographs?  In most cases they are stored digitally somewhere.  No physical  photographs to touch and hold and feel, and pass around the family.  No actual photographs to leave behind for your children and grandchildren.

I have no issues with providing digital images to any client.  I would much prefer for my wedding couples to have an actual wedding album, but we are living in a digital age and I have to move with the times.  However, what worries me is that a lot of clients only want digital files and nothing else.  And in most cases these photographs from your fabulous portrait session, or your amazing wedding day, or your family party, sit somewhere out of view on a computer or a disc / USB in a long forgotten, hidden place.  I’ve spoken to many wedding clients a year or two after their wedding day and asked if they have printed out their photographs, and often their reply is ‘no’.   Why?  The most important day of your life and no physical photographs to show for it.  Your wedding dress will be cleaned and stored away, your flowers will have wilted and died and every aspect of your day will be just a memory.  The only tangible thing you have after this day are your photographs.  Print them…   and enjoy them.

If you really, really love your photographs from your wedding day or your professional photography session, print them out – and print them out straight away.  Better still, choose one of your favourite photographs and have it professionally framed  and finished to showcase  on your wall at home and enjoy it every single day.  Even if you are not  a big fan of large photographs on your wall (believe it or not – I don’t have any really large prints of me or my family on my walls at home),  you could always print out smaller sized desk prints to have on display on  your favourite cabinet or shelf at home for you and your family to enjoy and see, every single day.  Or have one or two on your desk  whilst you get through the daily grind of your 9-5  job.

It’s so simple and easy these days to upload your photographs to a printing company, and order your photographs.   It takes minutes, if not seconds.  And within a few days you will have hard copies of your photographs to enjoy and pass on to future generations.  I feel very sad sometimes when wedding clients only want to have digital files of their wedding day.  Wedding albums are so important and your wedding album will be a future heirloom to be enjoyed for years and years to come, probably many, many years after you have departed from this earth.    With this in mind I have launched a montage print purposely designed for wedding day clients.  I understand that it must be so difficult to choose your favourite photographs from your wedding day to display on your wall at home.  Especially if you have hundreds of images to choose from.  I can design you a fabulous montage telling a story of your wedding day or family celebration that you will enjoy for years to come.  Take a look at this montage and if you are a past or present client, let me do the hard work for you.  Let me tell a story of your wedding day or your family celebration or get together.  I was there… I was part of your day.  You can then collect your finished piece of wall art, ready to hang on your wall and enjoy it every single day.

Print out your photographs… xxx

Wedding Photography Kilworth House

Are you getting married at Kilworth House in Leicestershire?  Have you found your wedding photographer yet?  This is a wedding I photographed in September 2013.  Kathryn and Lee live in London, however Lee is originally from Leicestershire.  Lee’s parents initially visited this fabulous hotel and as soon as Kathryn and Lee saw it, they just knew they wanted to have their wedding day here.  It is a truly beautiful wedding venue.  It has it all.  Stunning bedrooms, an amazing staircase, the beautiful orangery and stunning grounds too.  Add to that, some fabulous weather, an easy going, fun, bride and groom and a bridal party who were up for having some fun and you get this.  Take a look at a selection of wedding photographs from this lovely wedding day and you can’t fail to smile.  If you would like to have an informal chat about your wedding day photography, please don’t hesitate to call me – Lesley Bee on 01455 233224.  Alternatively, you can email me at info@lesleybee.co.uk or use the contact form on my website.  I can photograph weddings in Leicestershire and the midlands, as well as the north west, as I spend a lot of time there during the Summer months.  For 2014 I will only be photographing a small number of weddings as I will be focussing more on the portrait side of my business.

Wedding Photography Shearsby Bath

I love Shearsby Bath…  It’s a venue that’s not too far from me (always a bonus) and it’s a venue that I have photographed at many times, so it’s nice to photograph a wedding and already be familiar with the venue.  Clare and Dennis are just total sweethearts.  Dennis has to have the smiliest face ever and Clare is so low key, but elegant at the same time.    It was a fabulous wedding day and lots of fun.   A few characters as usual, especially Clare’s sister – ‘batty’ comes to mind but great company.   And Clare’s nephew was such a sweetheart and we had a little ‘one on one’ photography tutorial during the day.  I think he might be a little bit into photography now…   It’s always lovely to keep in touch with couples after their wedding days and Clare and Dennis exchange tweets with me from time to time and I am hoping to hear the ‘pitter patter’ of tiny feet at some stage?

Mr and Mrs Spiers – BEE happy!  xxx

Wedding Photography Farndon Grange Leicestershire

I photographed Emma and Will’s wedding in June last year.  Emma is originally from Leicestershire but at the time when she contacted me they were both living in London.  They were married at St Peter and St Paul’s Church in Great Bowden, followed by their reception at Farndon Grange.  Farndon Grange is not a typical wedding venue, it’s actually a beautiful bed and breakfast in East Farndon near Market Harborough.   However, you can hire the gar dents for parties, wedding receptions and special occasions.  This is exactly what Emma and Will did, and Emma’s dad spent weeks making it look extra special for their wedding day.  Once again, the weather was very kind to us.  Emma and Will requested very relaxed, story telling photography and their list of group photographs with family etc was kept to the minimum.  Instead they wanted to enjoy the amazing grounds of Farndon Grange and have as much time as possible with family and friends on their wedding day.  I often have couples tell me that they didn’t manage to speak to all of their guests on the day of the wedding.  My advice?  Keep your formal photographs to a minimum.  Have a full wedding party photograph featuring the new Mr and Mrs with all of your guests.  Then focus on immediate family for your group shots.  This gives you more free time to actually enjoy your wedding day.  And this is exactly what Will and Emma did.  It also gave me more time to capture more natural, story telling photographs of their wedding day.

Emma and Will are now expecting twins and have since moved up to Harrogate so they have had a very busy year.  Best wishes Mr and Mrs Cousins… xxx

Wedding Photography Nottinghamshire Golf Club

When I think back to this wedding at Nottinghamshire Golf and Country Club all I think of is colour, noise and kids… lots of kids! Most of the kids were being hung upside down by the groomsmen and male guests, just to keep them under control a bit. I also think of what great fun the bridal party were. Full of antics, and daftness, and wouldn’t do as they were told most of the time… but I do like a challenge. We had such a mixed bag of weather for this wedding. Sunshine followed by showers, followed by more sunshine and more showers. But luckily we had lots of opportunities in between to get outside for some fun photography. Emma and Lee have the two most gorgeous children and the wedding day was very much a family day with kids at the heart of this celebration. A Joy… Great fun! Great memories.

Wedding Photography Guild Hall Leicester

Another fantastic, fun wedding day with amazing weather. Clare contacted me after reading the ‘about me’ section on my website explaining that we had a few things in common, being similar ages, both having 2 daughters and she had been planning her wedding day but wanted this to be a fun day, with minimal formalities, apart from the paperwork! Clare and Scott had already been together a very long time and have two beautiful daughters. Similar to Mr Bee and I. Together 21 years but married for just 8. Clare and Scott’s wedding was a long time coming, just like mine! I suppose life just gets in the way especially when you have children. I absolutely loved the laid back, party feel to this day. And I do think that Clare has to be one of the ‘nuttiest’ brides I have photographed. Check out the fabulous dress and shoes… Very Clare! Mr and Mrs Monan… wishing you a lifetime of happiness to you and your beautiful daughters.

The wedding ceremony was held at the Guildhall Leicester, followed by a reception at Hotel Maiyango  xx

Wedding Photography Coombe Abbey

I’m doing really well catching up on a bit of blogging… I had no time in 2013 to blog about most of the weddings I photographed. And so here I am in January 2014, getting up to speed. Alex and Kevin were married at Coombe Abbey in May last year. I am so delighted when I get to photograph a wedding on recommendation. I photographed Kevin’s brothers wedding in 2012, so it was lovely to have Kevin and Alex come to me and book me for their wedding too. And, it’s also fun to see familiar faces again. It was a beautiful wedding at an amazing venue, with perfect May weather, and I was made to feel so very welcome by everybody. Mr and Mrs Hayes – Thank You! BEE happy…

Wedding Photography Shearsby Bath, Leicestershire

I have photographed a lot of weddings at Shearsby Bath and it’s a great venue with very lovely staff and I have always been made very welcome here. Marie and Nathan chose Shearsby Bath for their wedding venue and they were not disappointed. Added bonus? We were also very blessed with fabulous weather. My favourite time of day during a wedding is just after the wedding breakfast. The formalities are all over, the couple have made their vows, the formal group shots are done and the speeches are ‘in the bag’. Everyone can heave a big sigh and fully relax and really enjoy the rest of the wedding day. It’s like being at a different wedding with different guests later in the day. I always take the opportunity after the wedding breakfast to take some relaxed and fun photographs. This lovely couple and their wedding party obliged and we had great fun capturing some laughter and silliness just before the sun went down. If you would like to talk to me about your wedding day photography requirements, please don’t hesitate to call me on 01455 233224. If you would just like to have an informal chat, I am happy to meet with you to discuss your wedding day in more detail. In the meantime, enjoy the fun and laughter of this fabulous wedding day.
Mr and Mrs Joel – keep in touch. Keep smiling and bring your babies in for a family photo shoot! xx

Wedding Photography Scalford Hall Leicestershire

Are you getting married and looking for a wedding photographer for your wedding day at Scalford Hall. Are you looking for a relaxed, fun style of photography for your wedding day? Would you prefer not to have ‘staged’ wedding photographs and for your photography not to take over your whole wedding day? This is a wedding I photographed in July 2013 for the lovely Jayne and Louis. It was a total pleasure to be a part of this fabulous wedding day, and this has to be one of the noisiest weddings I have ever photographed. So much laughter and mischief going on all day long – misbehaving guests photo-bombing the photographs and generally being very naughty, along with raucous laughter and so many tears of pure joy. Jayne was probably the most emotional bride I’ve photographed.
Mr and Mrs White – wishing you a lifetime of continued laughter and mischief…

Kilworth House Wedding Photography

I have had absolutely no time whatsoever to blog all of the amazing weddings I have photographed this year…  I could do with an assistant (if only I could afford this luxury).  So, I am going to make an effort to blog some images from weddings during 2013.  I am currently working on an album from a wedding in September at Kilworth House.  This venue is absolutely stunning, inside and out.  And Lee and Kathryn were a fabulous couple to work with.  Theirs was a Friday 13th 2013 wedding… however ‘unlucky for some’ number 13 didn’t bother these two in the slightest.  It was a truly amazing day at Kilworth House.  The weather was beautiful, the couple were relaxed, fun and easy to work with and their family and friends made me so welcome on their special day.  If you are still to find your wedding photographer for your wedding day at Kilworth House, please call me, Lesley Bee on 01455 233224 or send a message via the contact page on this website.

Photographing my own family

I have to remind myself often that I should photograph my own family from time to time.  I HATE having my photograph taken, and I spend my days, weeks, months and years trying to convince people that it can be fun to have your photograph taken.  Yeah right!  I am mortified when someone asks to take a picture of me.   And believe me, it often takes about 30 shots before I can hand pick one that I like.  My teenage daughters are not so keen to be photographed these days either…  Often they will delete out the images they don’t like straight away and much prefer to take their own photographs using Instagram on their mobile phones,  and can happily edit up a shot in less than 30 seconds that they fire up on to Facebook to share with family and friends.  Long gone are the days when I could take my two little girls out for a walk and they would pose happily for me to photograph them and capture their beauty and personalities… 🙁

My 13 year old daughter let me take some shots of her earlier in the year, however she was very much in control and in fact, I think she was in control of the editing too.  Teenagers!  What happened to my two little girls?

Location Family Portraits

I haven’t done very well in terms of updating my blog every day as promised to myself over 2 weeks ago.  I just don’t seem to be able to grab that half an hour and focus on the task very well.  But here goes… Just a quick upload of some images using natural light, on location, with some extra cute little ones.  I am a big fan of location photography.  It’s far less restrictive than a studio environment, and you really can get out in any weather for a photo shoot.  I love to see children running around in the fresh air and even in Autumn and Winter, as long as they are wrapped up warm then there’s lots of fun to be had.   Wellington boots, wooly scarves and hats all make location images more fun.  I am very happy to let your little ones run around,  and I love nothing more than chasing after them and capturing them at their most relaxed.  The studio does not allow for this and it’s difficult to get an energetic, curious 2 year old to sit still in a small studio space.  So – my advice?  If you have little children, location is perfect for you.. Simple 🙂
