If You Are Planning Your Wedding Day You Need To Read This…

You might want to read this fascinating article on a website called ‘Every Last Detail’.  In a nutshell,  it is a post from a bride who took the ‘cheap’ photographer route and has regretted it ever since.  Thanks to Paul Davis, a London photographer for sharing this article via his fan page on facebook.

This really is a worthwhile read and only re-iterates what I say to couples when I meet them to discuss their photography requirements for their wedding day. You really do get what you pay for.  Often couples have never booked a photographer before  and have no clue at all when it comes to selecting somebody to record one of the most important days of their lives.  In some cases couples will have a friend or family member to take photographs on their wedding day just because they own an SLR camera.  The results can be just a set of  snap shots that don’t fully tell the story of the wedding day.  Believe me, I have talked to many couples who regret not carefully choosing their photographer because they booked purely on price and not quality.

My advice would be that if you want photography on your wedding day that you will treasure for years to come, then please ensure you invest wisely.   For me, being a professional photographer I get to share such an amazing, special day with the wedding couple, their family and their closest friends.    But my relationship is built over time from the very first meeting to discuss their wedding plans, right through to handing over their finished album.  It is so important to book a photographer that you trust, who inspires you and who you can get along with.   I always ensure that I see the bride and groom at least 2-3 times before their wedding.  My album packages also  include an engagement / ‘getting to know you’  photo shoot at the  chosen venue.  This is a great chance for the couple to see how I work, to talk through the wedding day in more detail and for me it helps to really get to know both the bride and groom better, and of course get some inspiration for my photography at the chosen venue.  Why would I want to turn up on the wedding day and feel like a total stranger after meeting them only once to take their booking?  Often I will be photographing a bride at the preparation stages of the wedding day and being a female photographer  this is an advantage when it comes to such an intimate part of the whole day.

I also offer a no obligation meeting to discuss your wedding and to go through all of my packages, products etc and  I also  fully understand that no two weddings are the same, so I often to tailor the wedding packages to suit the couple.

Remember, once your wedding day is over your  beautiful wedding dress and shoes will be put away in your wardrobe  and your wedding photographs will be the only truly lasting record of your day.  Invest Wisely…

Wedding Fair – City Rooms Leicester

I exhibited at The City Rooms Wedding Fair last Sunday along with various other wedding suppliers.  It was a very busy fair considering that the City Rooms is a relatively new venue.  As usual, Vicky and the whole team were very welcoming and helpful and the main ballroom looked stunning.  If you are looking for  Leicester city centre venue for your wedding or event, you really should go and take a look at this place.  The City Rooms is a Grade 1 listed Georgian banqueting venue and boutique hotel in the very centre of the city centre which  had a two year restoration and was brought back to life and opened its doors in October 2006.    I have worked there on numerous occassions both for weddings and an event and I love this venue.

‘Working’ – Another Great Show at the Concordia Theatre

I didn’t think that photographing some of the dress rehearsals at Hinckley Concordia Theatre would give me so much pleasure, but I find it surprisingly relaxing and great fun.   There is obviously the added benefit of getting to see some of the shows for free… but I do have to say it’s quite difficult taking in the storylines etc when I am concentrating on getting the shots.

‘Working’ is a musical based on the book of the same name by Studs Terkel.  It chronicles a day in the life of twenty-six average American workers, in which they describe their daily routines and discuss their hopes and aspirations.  Both Chris & Chris Clarke the producers (husband and wife with the same christian names!!) made me feel so welcome when I went along to the dress rehearsal and I am going along to the show this Friday to watch it properly, with my husband.  Just a few images from the dress rehearsal below. working 2working

Pre Wedding Shoot at Anstey Hall

I met with the lovely Shelley and Lee on Saturday to have an update on their wedding I am photographing in May and to take some informal photographs of them at their chosen venue Anstey Hall in Warwickshire.   A pre wedding shoot is included in my album packages and is a great way to get to know wedding couples better.  It is also a chance to finalise the details for the wedding day such as timings, group photograph requirements etc.  Shelley and Lee are very laid back and relaxed and Lee loves having his photograph taken – which is a little unusual.  A lot of grooms are not too keen on the whole photography process but I think I will have to be moving Lee out of some of the shots on the wedding day!!  shelleylee2shelleylee

Nice Words from the Lovely Becky & Alexiss – Wedding Photography February 2010

It’s great when I hear from The Best of Hinckley when a client has posted a review – and particularly uplifting if I am having an ‘off’ day.  I photographed Becky and Alexis at Hartington Hall in Derbyshire (selection of images posted previously) and Becky has written a really great review.  I enjoyed photographing their wedding day very much.  Both Becky and Alexiss and their family and friends were so welcoming on their very special day and although they were both not very keen on having their photographs taken, I think I managed to win them round.  Their brief was to capture the day as it unfolded and not to take too many formal photographs.  This was great for me as it gives me a chance to become part of the wedding party and to just mingle in with the guests.  I did persuade Becky and Alexiss to have a few formal shots taken but mixed these with some fun photography too.   Even if you would prefer ‘reportage’ photography on your wedding day, it is still important to be photographed with your closest family and friends.   I always endeavour to take these photographs but to do it swiftly and to also add an element of fun to the shots.    Thank you Becky and Alexiss for the kind words…

“Lesley is a wonderful wedding photographer. Not only is she a true professional, she’s also a lot of fun! We loved having her at our wedding and her photographs were brilliant. My husband and I aren’t usually very good in front of a camera, but Lesley managed to put us both at ease and get some stunning pictures. As well as the formal photographs, she got some really fun shots that captured the spirit of the day. I would recommend her to anyone.”

Ed Byrne – Photographing a Celeb in Hinckley…

Well, it’s not often I get to sit in front of a celeb, right next to the stage and snap away!!!  But at a recent awards ceremony I was asked to photograph at the Barcelo Hinckley Island Hotel I couldn’t resist grabbing a few candids of the guest comedian Ed Byrne.  He was very entertaining,  and had the audience in the palm of his hands… I was photographing the event on behalf of Focus DIY for their annual management conference which is always held in central England.  And Ed managed to shoe horn in a few DIY jokes to keep the delegates amused and interested.  Of course these jokes involved mentioning competitors Wickes and B&Q – very clever!

I have had great feedback from the Communications and Customer Care Manager at Focus DIY –   “These are the best images I’ve seen of our awards ceremonies over the years! Well done!”…   Sorry, I had to include his testimonial.  It’s always great to receive positive feedback!

If you are looking for photography for your corporate event, please contact Lesley Bee at Artography on 01455 233224.  ed byrne
